KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the Aug. 24, 2014, murder of Darrell Fennell.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a press release that Reginald L. Abbott, 35, faces first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges after officers were dispatched to the intersection of Truman and Woodland Avenues following an early morning shooting.
According to court records, witnesses told police officers that they saw a man standing over Farrell near the intersection. The suspect was holding a black pistol and soon left the crime scene headed in the direction of TB Watkins Housing Complex. Two witnesses later identified Abbott as the man who shot the victim. Arrested at TB Watkins, Abbott had five rounds of ammunition in his pocket with a cell phone. Police compared the five live rounds to spent cartridges found at the crime scene and revealed all were fired or were cycled through the same gun.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000. First-degree murder is a class A felony, while armed criminal action is just a felony.
