KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Two people are dead from three separate shootings that rocked the Northeast area over Memorial Day weekend.

The first incident took place around 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, May 25. Kansas City, Mo., police officers were called to 1650 N. Universal Ave., for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Ludy Cruz, 41, of Kansas City, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

The second incident began later Sunday morning, at around 11:15 a.m., and lasted into the evening.

Law enforcement were called to a residence near 23rd Street and Lawndale Avenue for a report of a man shooting a handgun and rifle at his father and neighbor. Neither were injured.

Police negotiators were called to the scene to try and speak to Isaac Sims, 26, of Kansas City. At one point during the negotiations, gunshots were heard coming from inside the residence. At around 4:15 p.m., Sims was shot and killed by officers after he pointed a rifle at them while exiting the home. He was pronounced dead a short time latter.

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is procedure following any officer involved shootings.

The third incident happened around 4:30 on Memorial Day. Officers were dispatched to 1017 Prospect Ave. for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found the gunshot victim near the intersection of Independence and Prospect Avenues. The victim, whose name has not yet been released by the KCPD, was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries but is now in stable condition. There are currently no suspects in custody.
