To update last week’s piece on long-awaited progress at the Independence Avenue and The Paseo intersection — paving work is under way as crews laid the first layer of asphalt and poured concrete curbs along the project area late last week.
Paving and landscaping crews are wrapping up work this month, with one subcontractor handling landscaping and tree planting and another completing the paving, sidewalks, curbs and lighting.
Weather permitting, and additional unforeseen delays notwithstanding, work should wrap- up soon. Crews on-site said they are unable to comment on the actual completion date, due to communication policies.
The Paseo Gateway project, administered by LISC, (Local Investment Support Coalition) launched nearly a decade ago and has seen the demolition of two motels on The Paseo, the bulldozing of the Chouteau Courts housing projectt and the relocation of those tenants to newer housing, along with the upgraded Independence and Paseo Boulevard intersection.
An RFP (Request For Proposal) for the old Chouteau Courts/Belvedere Park site, which sought development proposals for the roughly 15 acre site, recently closed on the city’s website. We will provide proposal details, as they become available, at The Northeast News
