The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is continuing the environmental study of Interstate 70 in Jackson County and needs community input.
MoDOT is now conducting the Second Tier Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), which covers about seven miles of I-70 from The Paseo interchange on the east to the Blue Ridge Cutoff interchange on the west.
To garner public input on ways to improve I-70, community meetings were hosted in July and will continue through Aug. 17. Area residents can also provide feedback online by registering and participating in the online town hall meeting at http://www.metroi70.com.
The study began in December of 2011 and will conclude in the spring of 2014. It builds upon the broader work of the I-70 First Tier EIS, creating a more detailed plan on how to best improve the safety and conditions of I-70. Current I-70 issues include pavement and bridge deterioration, traffic delays and congestion, and merging/weaving issues at interchanges.
The next meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 17, at The Museums at 18th and Vine (Atrium), 1616 E. 18th St.
