KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Kansas City man has been charged for stabbing another man he claims he was arguing with this past weekend in the Northeast.

According to a press release from Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, Hersi K. Abdi, 31, has been charged with first-degree assault, a class A felony, and armed criminal action, a felony. The victim is currently in critical condition.

According to court documents, around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, police were called to the 1400 block of Independence Avenue for an ambulance call. Upon arrival, Abdi told police he had been in a fight with the victim and stabbed him in the head, using a screw driver. The suspect claimed self defense, but a video of the incident showed the victim making no move that appeared threatening. The victim is not expected to survive.

Prosecutors requested a cash bond of $250,000.
