KANSAS CITY, Missouri — A Kansas City, Mo., school board member is stepping down this summer.
Gunnar Hand, who represents Sub-District Two, will step down from his position early this summer. He and his family are moving to Los Angeles, where Hand will open a design studio for the Skidmore, Owings and Miller architectural firm.
Ray Wiekal, public relations and marketing coordinator for the KCPS, said the seat will become vacant after Hand officially resigns, which is expected at the board’s second meeting in June.
The school district is then required to hold a special election to fill the vacant seat. The election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2015. The filing period for interested candidates is from July 21 – Aug. 18, 2015. Hand’s term runs until 2019.
