Kansas City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man impersonating a KCPD officer.

The suspect, described as a black male with a light complexion in his 20s, robbed four women and sexually assaulted one of them at area hotels. Via phone, all of the victims arranged to meet the suspect at area hotels throughout Kansas City, and each victim invited the man into her room.

The first incident occurred May 11 at approximately 7:30 p.m. at a hotel in the 3800 block of the Blue Ridge Cutoff. A 26-year-old female met the man in her hotel room, where he identified himself as a KCPD detective and handcuffed the woman. Following searching the room, he took several items and left. Similar incidents occurred in June, July and August involving a 32-year-old, 18-year-old and 27-year-old female victim. In June, the suspect visited a hotel in the 3800 block of the Blue Ridge Cutoff, and the next two incidents occurred at a hotel room in the 1600 block of Parvin Road and in the 500 block of East 105th Street. While at the hotel on Parvin Road, the suspect pinned the victim down and raped her.

The suspect is 5’8″ to 6′ tall and weighs 150 to 160 pounds. He also has a tattoo on his inner right forearm. In all four incidents, the suspect wore a sleeveless vest over a gray “Police KC/MO” Tshirt. The suspect had a generic badge – not a KCPD badge – and was armed with a black handgun. A metallic blue Chevy Equinox may be connected to this suspect. The vehicle was described as having dark tinted windows and a damaged or missing front bumper.

Police believe there may be more victims who are afraid to report the incidents due to the suspect identifying himself as a police officer. If someone says he or she is a police officer and you suspect he or she is lying, call 911.
