KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Police Department have identified the man who fell into the Missouri River from the Heart of America bridge.

According to police reports, on April 9, 2014, DeAndre Dunn, 23, climbed over a fence to access the edge of the bridge. Police tried to rescue him by reaching out and grabbing Dunn’s hands to prevent him from falling but we not able to reach him. One officer even tried to use jumper cables, which Dunn attempted to grab before releasing his grip and falling into the water. He attempted to tread the river water, but soon after went underwater and did not resurface.

On the bridge, police found Dunn’s phone, which he used to contact the 911 Call Center. The Kansas City Fire Department attempted a water rescue but were not successful. On Saturday, May 3, Missouri Highway Patrol spotted Dunn’s body near the Berkley Riverfront Park.
