BREAKING- Just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) responded to the 600 block of Brighton Ave. within the Lykins neighborhood on a reported house fire.
Upon arrival, crews were met with a two-story, inhabited structure, engulfed in flames and smoke. Offensive operations were initiated by KCFD firefighters, according to a release from KCFD Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins, Tuesday.
With use of handlines, firefighters were able to contain the fire by 9:10 a.m., according to Hopkins.
Dwelling residents were able to self-evacuate, and crews ordered American Red Cross for five adults and four children from the scene.
No injuries were reported at this time. A dangerous buildings case has been ordered for this structure following this incident.
The fire cause remains under KCFD investigation as firefighters move to salvage and overhaul operations.
