Kansas City could break a Guinness Book World Record if all goes as planned.
To kick off Cinco De Mayo and to help homeless pets, United Entertainment is hosting a Chihuahua Parade May 5 at 11 a.m. More than 700 dogs parading in costume would break the Guinness Book World Record.
Although it’s called a Chihuahua Parade, dogs of all breeds are welcome to participate. All entry frees will be given to The Pet Connection, Inc., a no-kill, non-profit animal shelter in the Kansas City metro area.
The Chihuahua Parade route will begin in The Crossroads Art District at Nica’s, 320 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, Mo. During the event, a king and queen Chihuahua will also be crowned.
Why Chihuahuas? Kansas City Promoter Mark Valentine explained that the Chihuahua breed originated in Pre-Columbian Mexico and was the first breed of dog in the Americas. With Cinco De Mayo, Chihuahuas fit perfectly.
To register your dog in advance for the parade, visit http://ThePetConnection.net. E ntry fees are $5 per dog, which includes a spot in the parade and a gift from 3 Dog Bakery. Participants may also register the day of the parade. Participating dogs must be in costume and wearing leashes.
