JR Hayes, 66, of Northeast Kansas City, Mo., passed away peacefully after a battle with lung cancer at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City on June 13, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Sr.; mother, Fayra; his wife, Judy Hayes; and siblings, Joyce, Harold and Jerry Hayes. JR is survived by his daughters, Kim Ross, Shelley Huslig, Michelle Borden and Carol Hayes; sons, John Miller and Paul Hayes Sr.; brother, Johnny Hayes; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

JR was born in Newnan, Ga. He served briefly in the U.S. Navy in 1961. He dedicated 37 years of his life to Snyder’s Supermarket and made many friends along the way.

JR had a passion for golf. Any spare time in his earlier years was spent on the golf course or playing pool at Arnones Bar. He was exceptional at just about every sport or activity that sparked his interest.

We will always remember his great smile and laughter. JR never knew a stranger and will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him. You will forever be in our hearts. We love you Dad.

A Celebration of Life Party will be held at 2 p.m. June 25 at 617 Fremont Ave., Kansas City, Mo. The family asks that you dress casual.
