KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Taking advice offered by Police Chief Darrel Forté at last Tuesday’s community conversation on crime trends in the Northeast, teachers and parents at James Elementary School walked students home last Wednesday to increase their level of engagement in the Indian Mound neighborhood.

According to Principal Dr. Mary Bachkora, showing support for the community is an important part of early child education.

“Our families work hard to protect their children,” Bachkora said. We want to work in solidarity with the families to continue to protect and support them. The walk will be a regular event at the school.”

Bachkora added that the staff is excited to walk with students and their families.
