BREAKING — Just before 1 p.m., on Friday, March 21, the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) was called to the 400 block of Norton Ave., within the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood on a reported house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters located a two-story residence experiencing smoke and flames. Crews preformed interior operations with handlines and a structure search, which came back all-clear, according to a release from KCFD Battalion Chief and Media Relations Officer Michael Hopkins, Friday.
The American Red Cross will be ordered for the home’s residents; In addition to occupants, two dogs, five cats and four kittens were rescued from the scene, Friday. One of the cats is currently in critical condition, Hopkins shared in a release, Friday.
A Dangerous Buildings report will be ordered for this structure; The fire’s cause is currently under KCFD investigation.
