The man fatally shot at near Independence and Monroe avenues on Sunday morning has been identified as 22-year-old Joseph Mangol.

Just before 9 a.m. Sunday morning officers were called to the area of Independence Avenue and Monroe Avenue on a shooting call.

Upon arrival officers located a Black man, identified Tuesday as Mangol, just off the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS responded to the scene and rendered aid, but the man was declared deceased at the scene. No other information is available at this time.

This is the first homicide in 11 days and the 161st homicide for Kansas City this year. It is the 29th homicide in Historic Northeast in 2020.
