KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Once they got the information, the ball started rolling.

On Monday, Kansas City, Mo., Police Department East Patrol Division officers received information about homeless camps in the Northeast known for their involvement in prostitution and drug activities.

On Wednesday morning, KCPD officers eradicated the two camps in the Lykins neighborhood. One camp was located in an abandoned house near Seventh Street and Myrtle Avenue, just off of Lykins Park. The other, an elaborate set-up complete with a front porch swing, couch and a mirror headboard for the makeshift bed, was located on an old concrete footing in an alley just south of the 4100 block of Independence Avenue.

According to Officer Jason Cooley, Community Interaction Officer for the East Patrol, pictures of the sites will be forwarded to the city for processing and cleaning.

“It is important for residents to let us know if they see this type of ramped up activity,” Cooley said. “It might not be today or tomorrow, but at least we can get the resources mustered to get the problem solved.”
