Grime: Last spring, the Northeast Kansas City (NEKC) Chamber organized a meeting where representatives from KCMO Parks & Recreation, neighborhood leaders, disc golfers, Bike KC, and the Kessler Park Advisory Board collaborated to plan and support the future of Kessler Park. This community-driven process aims to listen to residents and park users about their needs and desires for the park.
Did you know that the CID partnered with the city for their sidewalk and ramps repair project? This is just one way the CID team enhances the community by cleaning up alleyways, planting native species of flowers and trees, and creating safe and clean spaces on the avenue.
Crime: The CID Outreach team assists individuals who are homeless in our area. Laura Cardwell, the Resource Manager of Urban Street Ambassadors (USA), has played a significant role in this effort. One day, Laura found Latrice lying unresponsive at a bus stop. She promptly called emergency services and later informed Latrice’s family. Thanks to Laura’s quick action, Latrice now lives with her sister and is doing well.
When the City removed a homeless camp near the railroad bridge, Laura was able to find some of the people and provide them with assistance through Hope City. Overall, The USA’s hard work, along with the help of Titan, has resulted in lower activity numbers in 2023 compared to the previous three years.
Chime: The Northeast Chamber of Commerce organizes two monthly events for networking and supporting local businesses. The first one is Tasty Talks, which comprises a catered lunch and a presentation by a guest speaker or a Northeast Chamber member. The next Tasty Talk is scheduled for March 26, 2024, featuring Northeast author, Catherine Browder. She will share her experience as a writer and give insights into publishing your work. Catherine recently published her latest book, “The Manning Girl,” which will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
The second event is Coffee, Conversation, and Culture, which the Chamber hosts monthly at local businesses. This free event is an opportunity to showcase member businesses and support locally-owned businesses in the Northeast. This week’s Coffee and Conversation event is March 14, 2024, at the NEKC Chamber Office. Wear your green, share Irish stories, and network with the membership. The NEKC Chamber will provide coffee, Irish Cream, soda bread, and sweets.
