KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Do you have old medicine in your home?
Want to get rid of it?
The Kansas City, Mo., Police Department is participating in this weekend’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, Northeast residents can drop off unused, unneeded or expired prescription medications at CVS Pharmacy, 5901 Independence Ave.
Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms will be collected at this location. If you have medications that are aerosol, liquid, or inhalants please check the www.dea.gov website for disposal directions. Public Information Officer Jason Cooley said flushing medications down the toilet puts these toxins into our water systems and throwing them in the trash can eventually do the same. He added that proper disposal also prevents your controlled substance type prescription medications from being stolen and abused.
You can find the other locations participating in the event and get more information at www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/. Other nearby locations participating in the prescription take-back include: North Kansas City Police Department, 2020 Howell St., North Kansas City, Mo. and the Sugar Creek Police Department, 1001 Heroes Way, Sugar Creek, Mo.
