The “Lyal Viers Alumni Room” inside Northeast High School, 415 S. Van Brunt Blvd., holds a variety of artifacts collected from the school’s storerooms and former students. Located in a first floor alcove just beyond the marble staircase, in a setting highlighted by the school’s original stained-glass windows, shelves and display cases hold scores of past yearbooks, photos, trophies, and school mementos.

The project to showcase the school’s history and accomplishments of its alumni was spearheaded by the first members of the Northeast Alumni Association.  Alumnus Lyal Viers, Class of ‘44, made a generous donation and was present at the ribbon-cutting on September 10, 1996. Viers was awarded the Nigro-Notre Dame trophy for his athletic abilities in 1943; the donated trophy is on display along with other notable artifacts that chronicle the school’s students, teachers, sports teams and clubs since 1914.

Alumni and current students are welcome to view artifacts during regular school hours but will need an appointment. Call the main office at 816- 418- 3300 for more information or visit www.northeastvikings.org to reach the Alumni Association.
