Concourse Park at the Colonnade will be filled with jazz music Saturday, July 23, as part of the “In the Pink of the Evening” free concert series.
Sponsored by Northeast Arts KC, the concert will feature the 5 Star Jazz Band from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Concourse Park, Saint John Avenue and Benton Boulevard.
5 Star Jazz Band is comprised of student musicians aged 12 to 21 from more than 15 schools in the Kansas City metro. Founded in 2008 by three North Kansas City High School musician students, the mission of the band is to “re-awaken” Kansas City’s musical heritage of Jazz Big Band Blues and Swing among young musicians. Their mission also includes gaining professional performance experience, performing with top musicians from area schools and having fun.
Since its conception, the band has grown from 10 to more than 50 members. 5 Star Jazz Band has been featured on KCUR Public Radio, National Public Radio, Fox 4 and other media outlets.
Attendees of the concert series are asked to bring their own food, drink, lawn chairs and blankets. The next concert will be held Aug. 20 and will feature the Rex Hobart band.
