Frances Gomolski Adams, 87, passed away Feb. 1 at St. Luke’s Health Center, Lee’s Summit, Mo. Fran was born in Rome, N.Y., to Jacob and Mary Gomolski, the seventh of eight children, on Dec. 29, 1924.  Fran was always proud of the fact that after her father died when she was nine years old, her mother managed to keep all eight children at home, at a time when others in such a position often had to let children live with others just to manage. In 1947, she met and married John Douglas Adams, a WWII Army Air Corp veteran who worked at the Rome Transmitter Building. The following year, twin sons John and James were born; in 1950, son Ronald; and in 1962, daughter Christine.

In 1970, the family relocated to Lee’s Summit when GEEIA consolidated at Richards-Gebauer Air Force Base. In 1971, son James married Barbara Bartell, and in 1975 Fran welcomed her first grandson, Doug. Grandson Seth was born in 1976, and granddaughter Kate was born in 1980.  Her grandchildren were a great joy and comfort to her throughout her life. In 1987, her husband of 39 years passed away suddenly. In 1994, her daughter Christine married Michael Bushnell. Her married grandchildren Doug (Aimee Lampton) and Kate (Charles Polomsky) gave Fran smart and beautiful great-grandchildren, who were truly the delights of her last years. Madeline, Claire, Anna, Lauren and Charlie will remember their GiGi fondly.

Fran loved to entertain family and friends, was a second mother to her children’s friends, and was an outstanding cook and homemaker. Among her interests were tole painting, sewing, the art of Polish Pysanky and classic movies. Fran was quite the adventurer, telling stories of flying in open-cockpit biplanes in her youth and roaming around with her friends Carol, Stella, Stella and Josephine.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Josephine (Joe Gordecki), Stella (Peter Wikiera), Charlotte (Frank Szmurlo), and Helen (Bill Voss); brother Ted (Sally); infant son John and young son Ronald. 

Fran is survived by her sisters Jeanette (Paul Boland) and Tessie (John Szmurlo); her son and daughter and their families; and many nieces and nephews. 

As she requested, there will be no services. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetary, Rome, N.Y., at a future date. As Fran was always proud of the accomplishments of her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, memorial contributions may be made to Truman High School Speech & Debate or the Lee’s Summit Girls Softball Association.
