We missed Throwback Thursday so here’s Flashback Friday! This week we goes back twenty years to the September 27, 2000 edition.
The big news that week was the official designation of Cliff Drive as the state’s only urban State Scenic By way.
Also on the front page was the announcement of the complete overhaul and re-design of the Concourse Fountain to a zero depth design. The $440,000 project is the fountain we see and love today.
Indian Mound Neighborhood Association head honcho Sheldon Johnson announces his resignation and move to Eureka Springs, Arkansas to renovate and operate a circa 1870’s hotel.
Our Historic postcard that week was the Ralph Sanitarium once located at 521 Highland. The stately structure was razed by KCU in favor of more surface parking.
Old Northeast Inc hosted a tour of their newly constructed homes in the community with agent Jack Mitchell.
And last but not least, we offer a tribute to local BBQ dude, the late Jerry Knight and his iconic BBQ joint down by Westlake. Great place for talking politics, grabbing a beer and some great Q. Miss ya Jerry!
