KANSAS CITY, Missouri — City Council authorized the increase of fees assessed to residents for the use of animal adoption and drop-off services at Kansas City’s Animal Shelter. The fee increase is the City’s first fee adjustment since 2006, and will assist in providing additional funding to the City-owned animal shelter for the care of neglected animals in Kansas City. “Kansas City’s dedicated animal control officers have rescued more neglected animals as a result of mobile ticketing and prosecution system changes that initiated in 2012,” said Patrick Egberuare, Animal Health and Public Safety Division Manager. “The increase in our shelter fees will help fund the care of Kansas City’s pet dogs, cats—and other animals rescued by our officers.”

Last year, Kansas City’s Animal Control Officers rescued more than 3,900 animals which were brought to the City’s animal shelter for care. Kansas City’s no-kill Animal Shelter is operated by Kansas City Pet Project. Located at 4400 Raytown Road, the shelter is open Monday-Friday from noon- 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
