BREAKING- Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) officers dispatched to the 3700 block of St. John Ave. within the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood on a reported shooting call.
Once on the scene, officers spoke with bystanders after KCPD was unable to locate a victim, who informed officers that an individual — suffering several gunshot wounds — was privately transported to a local hospital, according to a release from KCPD media unit, Tuesday morning.
After a further investigation, it was discovered this incident may have occurred north-east of the initial dispatch location, near Sunrise Drive and Cliff Drive Place.
The victim was pronounced deceased around 6 a.m. at a local hospital. KCPD detectives and investigators have identified the victim as Diego Lopez-Hernandez; He was 19 years old.
This case is currently under homicide investigation by KCPD detectives and investigators; Preliminary investigation information, including what occurred prior to shots fired, remains unknown at this time.
