Two victims were shot in Historic Northeast Oct. 30, resulting in one fatality.

While in the 1900 block of Independence Avenue, Kansas City patrol officers were waved down by a male approximately 40 years old, who had been shot, at 10:12 p.m.

The victim stated he was shot by an unknown suspect near Missouri and Maple streets. The victim was transported in serious condition to an area hospital. Officers canvassed the area and located a second shooting victim approximately 30 years old in a field near Missouri and Maple streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Calls for service have increased in the area since the implementation of the foot patrol program.
