KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Track construction will close Delaware Street between Third Street and Independence Avenue starting Monday, Feb. 9, through March 9, 2015.

There will also be no on street parking allowed on Delaware Street starting at 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9.This time will be strictly enforced because the crew is focused on maintaining the 4-week schedule. Illegal street parking will create delays for the schedule.

According to a press release, Kansas City Streetcar track crews will start track construction on Delaware Street between Third and Fifth Streets, as well as continue southbound track work on Delaware between Fifth Street and Independence Avenue. As a result of work, Delaware Street between Third Street and Independence Avenue will close to thru traffic and will remain closed for four weeks.

Crews will be working six days a week to get the work done in this tight time frame with work possible on Sundays, as well. Track work will start on the south end at Fifth Street and travel north to Third Street.

In addition to track work, crews will work on a pedestrian median at Fifth and Delaware Streets and the Overhead Contact Systems on Delaware Street. Water line work will start on Delaware Street between Second and Third Streets on Monday, Feb. 9. This section of Delaware will remain open southbound only with no on-street parking. Local access to parking lots and residential units will be available.
