Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter about the articles you published in the Northeast News in November and December about the Kansas City Fire Department’s ambulance response time and how they are improving.
In the article you wrote about ALS (Advanced Life Support) pumpers; I support the fire department’s plan on ALS pumpers. This is something that I have been supportive about – why? Because it gives the boost for the ambulance that is responding. The ALS pumper can be first on the scene to give advanced life support to a patient until the paramedic ambulance can get there, take over patient care and transport the patient to the hospital. The ALS pumper can then go back in service, and wait for the next call, whether it be a fire or another medical call. I feel the city should at least look into it (continuing the ALS pumper initiative), like they are now. It just might save a lot of lives in the future.
