Nadine Burnett
Nadine Burnett, 91, of St. Anthony’s Parish in Northeast Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.

She is the mother of 10 children: John and Ingrid Burnett, Robert and Margene Burnett, Jim and Kelly Burnett, Liz and Ed Hazlett, Mary and Jim Aycock, Grace Thomas, Greta and Chris O’Brien, Carla and Joe Foley; two of her sons, Mike and Edward Burnett, are deceased. She has 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

The Funeral Mass was held  March 2 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 318 Benton Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. Burial followed in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements are by Passantino Bros. Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo.  Online condolences may be shared at www.passantinobros.com.

James Lewis Conaway
James Lewis Conaway, 77, of rural Warsaw, Mo., and a long-time Kansas City resident, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the Westwood Nursing Center in Clinton, Mo., after a courageous battle against non-smoker lung cancer.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1935, in Keytesville, Mo., the son of Jerry Lewis and Leona Florence Conaway.

James graduated from Hughesville High School in 1953 where he met his future wife Betty Lee Ingram. The two were united in marriage on July 25, 1954, in Houstonia, Mo.

Together they made their first home in Germany while he was serving in the United States Army. He was discharged in April, 1957, and they moved to Kansas City, Mo.

He worked as a pressman for The Kansas City Star until 1975, a maintenance supervisor for the city of Kansas City, Mo., from 1977 to 1995, and a printing press repairman for Inland Industries from 1995 to 2006. He also worked part-time and full-time as an auto mechanic for a number of car dealerships in the Kansas City area.

In addition to instilling Christian values and the importance of honesty and hard work, one of his greatest sources of pride was that none of his children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren has spent a day or night in jail.

In October, 1999, he and his wife moved to Lincoln, Mo., and moved again in October, 2001, to Warsaw, Mo.

James enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His pets were also another source of joy.

The family, meanwhile, would like to thank Dr. Howard A. Pickett of Liberty, Mo., for Liberty, Mo., for his care throughout the years that was above and beyond the call of duty, Abundant Life Christian Center pastor Herbert Robertson and Sheffield Family Life Center pastor Mike Tosspon for their prayers and encouragement during a time of difficulty, and the staff of the Westwood Nursing Center in Clinton, Mo.

James is survived by two sons, Jimmy Conaway of Kansas City, Mo., and Jeff Conaway and his wife, Gail, of Holt, Mo., one daughter Hedy Hall of the home, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, plus other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for James L. Conaway were held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Mo. Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial was at the Belleview Cemetery in Edwards, Mo. Arrangements are by Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, Mo.

Dorothy “DJ” Gehringer
Dorothy Jeanne “DJ” Gehringer, 87, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away on March 2, 2013. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (1029 Bennington, KCMO 64126) with rosary recited at 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Following graduation from St. Aloysius Academy in 1942, she was employed in the Customer Relations Department of Sears for 41 years. DJ was a lifelong member and organist at Our Lady of Peace (formerly St. Stephen’s).

DJ is preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Gehringer in 1981; her aunts, Mary Sullivan (Vincent) in 1981 and Margaret “Peg” Hughes (TJ) in 2001. She is survived by her Godson, Ronald Jennings (Kathy), her dear cousins and the best of friends, for whom she was very grateful.

“And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
