June Eleanor Darnell

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri – June Eleanor Darnell, 77, of Independence, Mo., passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014.

Services were held Friday, April 25. Donations in June’s name can be made to American Heart Association, 6800 W. 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kan., 66212.

June was born in Kansas City on Dec. 17, 1936, and graduated from Westport High School. June knew the value of a hard day’s work. She worked for 40 years at AT&T Western Electric, boasting perfect attendance record (and never late) for an astounding 27 years.

A beloved member of the community, giving was at the core of June’s character. She loved to be involved with anything that could help people, and dedicated much of her life to volunteer work, feeding the homeless, and giving to several charitable organizations. She was a member of the Rotary Club, an officer in the Democratic Club, and active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She is survived by loving daughter, Deborah Herman (husband Tom Marchisotto), sisters Judy Oakley (Charles), Joan Atkinson (Bill), Jean Lininger (Ed) and Joyce Wilcox, many nieces and nephews, two grandsons and a granddaughter, Stephanie Herman. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Maye K. Graham, and son, Michael James Herman.

Norman “Norm” Leonard Jackson Sr.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Norman “Norm” Leonard Jackson Sr., 59, passed away on April 4, 2014 in Kansas City, Mo.

Norman was born on Nov. 28, 1954, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Raymond L. Jackson Sr. and Lois A. Kurt. He was baptized on March 6, 1955.

Norman served his country, enlisting in the Navy in January 1974 and serving for four years. Serving as a Yeoman, he rose to the rank of Petty Officer Second Class, and his outstanding work resulted in his receiving an award as Sailor of the Quarter and nomination as Sailor of the Year.

Returning to civilian life, Norman continued to pursue his high school hobby interest in automobiles, and he became a skilled auto body repair mechanic in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Relocating to Kansas City, Mo., in the mid-1990’s, Norman continued his auto body repair career until various physical circumstances eventually forced him to retire. With this retirement, Norman was able to devote the past several years of his life to fully sharing his own personal joy and friendship around the local Independence Boulevard community of Kansas City and, in particular, serving the Lord and the membership of Independence Boulevard Christian Church with his singing, guitar playing and sincere generosity and caring for others.

Norman is survived by his mother Lois Kurt, Thousand Oaks, Calif., ex-wife Sharon Hartman, Simi Valley, Calif., son Norman Jackson Jr., Gilroy, Calif., daughter Kirsten Finneran, San Diego, daughter Linette Trembly, Thousand Oaks, Calif., brother Raymond Jackson Jr. (Rita), San Antonio, sister Susan Vertin, Evansville, Ind., brother John Jackson, Sparks, Nev., sister Shari Robinson, Westlake Village, Calif., sister Erin Cadell, Renton, Wash. He was preceded in death by his son Paul and father Raymond Sr.
