A Kansas City man has now been charged in the Sept. 24 shooting near St. John and Oakley in Historic Northeast. One victim is paralyzed from his injuries.
Felipe Caballero, 22, has been charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action.
According to court records, the two victims walked to the liquor store at St. John and Oakley to purchase cigarettes. When victim 1 exited the store, he observed what sounded like an argument between victim 2 and the occupants of a white vehicle. When he observed victim 2 shooting at the car, he ran and attempted to hide behind a tree located on the west side of the street.
However, the car followed him, and Caballero exited the vehicle. Victim 1 pleaded with Caballero not to shoot, but Caballero pointed the handgun at him. As victim 1 tried to run away, Caballero shot him in the back and continued to shoot at him.
As a result of his injuries, victim 1 is paralyzed from the waist down, and victim 2 was shot in the face.
Prosecutors have requested a $200,000 cash bond.
