Calvin Arsenia will take the stage on July 19 as the second performer in Northeast Arts KC’s three-part Summer Dusk Concert Series. The concert will start at 7 p.m. at the Colonnade pavilion, north of the Concourse Fountain (200 Benton Blvd). Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets, or lawn chairs.

Arsenia is a classically trained harpist, singer, songwriter and producer who has been a part of the Summer Dusk Series in previous years. Raised in Olathe and a past resident of the Historic Northeast,  Arsenia has built a reputation for combining his Kansas City jazz roots with new-age electronic influences.

Performing local gigs like the Summer Dusk Series is considered special to Arsenia, who said,   “KC audiences deserve world-class performances.” Arsenia described his concerts as a time to be authentic for both himself and the audience, stating, “Kansas City tends to be a forgiving and open audience. I can express myself on stage without fear of not being welcomed.”

Arsenia’s music comes from “a quilt of inspirations” used to create a feeling of belonging, trust, and truth. His passion for music and performance comes from the feeling of unity, “There is a certain euphoric state when the music, environment, and people align unanimously as a group. An emotion you feel when you’re singing happy birthday, or church hymns,” he said.

In December 2023, Arsenia stepped into a curatorial role at Greenwood Social Hall, an historically Black church turned performance venue. Arsenia is committed to maintaining a legacy of community-building through his work at the venue.

Don’t miss this chance to experience Arsenia’s angelic harmonies on voice and harp in a beautiful, historic setting. Mark your calendars for an evening of music, culture and community at the Colonnade pavilion.

Trevor Turla will close out the Summer Dusk Concert Series Aug. 16. The trombonist, composer and producer tells his story of trials and tribulations through his music. Zach Arias will feature on guitar with Turla.
