This Book of the Week was recommended by Phyllis Hernandez, Senior Library Assistant at the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library.
Phyllis chose “Stargazing” by Jen Wang in honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI).
“Stargazing is a heartwarming graphic novel set in a Chinese American community,” Phyllis said. “When Moon moves next door to Christine, they soon become friends. Even though the two friends come from different backgrounds, they realize they share a passion for music. Jealousy and resentment get in the way when Madison, the popular girl at school wants to join in on their love for K-pop. Christine quickly realizes that the past cannot be changed but we can learn from the way we hurt the ones we love. This is a great novel for young teenagers learning to accept differences in our community.”
The recommendation is available through the Kansas City Library for placing a hold as an e-book or physical item.
