This week’s book comes recommended by Diana Ash, Senior Library Technical Assistant at the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library.
She chose “#NotYourPrincess: Voices of Native American Women” Edited by Lisa Charleyboy and Mary Beth Leatherdale for this month’s Native American stories theme.
“‘#NotYour Princess’ is a collection of art, stories, poetry, and personal essays written by indigenous women honoring their life experiences,” Diana said. “Captivating and powerful, this Young Adult book gives readers a glimpse into the world of these phenomenal individuals through beautiful artwork and variety of content. One essay in particular, ‘We Are Not a Costume,’ really spoke to me as Halloween approaches.”
The book is available to those with a Kansas City Public Library card as a downloadable eBook and as a paper copy.
