This week’s book recommendation comes from Amanda Barnhart, branch manager at the North-East Branch Library.
Barnhart recommended “Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
“Set in a reclusive, depreciated mansion outside the small town of El Truinfo, Noemi Taboada is a visitor investigating the suspicious care of her ill cousin,” Barnhart said. “Sinister mysteries surround the mansion and its inhabitants. Layered within the supernatural are conversations on race and culture that are explored through the topic of eugenics and familial ties. I selected this as a perfect creepy read for the fall season that my teenage self would have devoured.”
“Mexican Gothic” can be found using your Kansas City Public Library card as a downloadable eBook, downloadable AudioBook, and as a paper copy.
