Bettie Duncan Miller, also lovingly known as “Chief Granny,” passed away peacefully on Monday, May 8, with her daughter by her side. She moved from Fayette, Mo. in 1945 to Kansas City, Mo., where she lived for 73 years before moving to Northern California in 2018. Bettie was a member of White Avenue Methodist Church for 63 years and then Grand Avenue United Methodist Church from 2012-2018. She worked for Macy’s and Dillards for 28 years.
Bettie loved many things: Hershey bars, Coca-Cola, playing penny slots, her family, handwritten notes, her great grandchildren, her beloved only daughter; but not much topped her love of the Kansas City Chiefs. She watched every game, took diligent notes of every play, and knew the roster better than anyone in the family.
Her family feels so fortunate to have had so much time with her as she recently celebrated her 98th birthday and some of the best, most recent memories obviously include those two incredible Super Bowl wins we got to watch together.
Bettie’s favorite scriptures included Proverbs 3:5-6, and Philippians 4:6-7. She will truly be missed.
