A Kansas City, Missouri, man was charged in federal court Friday with setting an arson fire in an apartment building at 11th and Benton Blvd on January 13th, 2021.
Rodney Boyles, 35, was charged with one count of arson in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.
According to witness accounts fire was reported at 1102-1104 Benton Boulevard at approximately 12:33 a.m.
The four-story brick apartment building was occupied at the time of the fire.
Three occupants of the apartment building sustained serious injuries because of the fire and were transported to the hospital for treatment. The building sustained significant fire damage on all four floors of the structure and remains standing vacant.
Fire investigators determined the fire had been intentionally set. One of the residents of the apartment building told investigators that Boyles had been staying in one of the apartments with his girlfriend and her son at the time of the fire.
Boyles remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing, which has not yet been scheduled.
