Saturday in Northeast. The Northeast was busy from morning til evening last Saturday.
Throughout the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood, historic homes opened their doors to local historians, wanting a glimpse of Northeast’s past during Northeast Kansas City Historical Society’s Homes Tour. Six homes, built between 1895-1910, were on display.
Additionally, Cliff Drive reopened to the public after months of construction. On top of closing one lane to vehicles, Cliff Drive now boasts major restoration to some of the historic stone overlooks and staircases. The drive opened to cars all day Saturday but now resumes its car-free weekends, closing to traffic each Friday evening and reopen Monday mornings. The total cost of improvements were paid for with a $642,000 federal scenic byways grant and $220,000 in local matching funds from the city’s capital improvements sales tax. After months of meetings last year, the city established a single eastbound lane of traffic, with the westbound lane dedicated to walkers and bicyclists. The drive closes at dusk each weekday evening and reopens in the morning.
