Kansas City Museum closed through January 4
The Kansas City Museum will be closed to the public from December 19, 2016 through January 3, 2017, reopening for regular hours on January 4. After re-opening, docent-guided tours of the first floor of Corinthian Hall and the first floor of the Carriage House will continue Wednesday-Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Jackson County Christmas in the Park
Jackson County’s annual Christmas in the Park (3901 SW Longview Road
Lee’s Summit, MO 64081) continues until December 31, from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 5:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. This annual event features 300,000 lights and 175 animated displays. Christmas in the Park is free to attend, though donations benefiting 39 area charities will be accepted.
Understanding Windows 10
Begin to understand Windows 10 with a special class at the Central Public Library (14 West 10th Street, KCMO) on Wednesday, December 28, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Join the class for a walk through of the basics of the new Windows 10 operating system. Feel free to bring your own Windows 10 laptop. Registration is required, so visit the library’s website ahead of time to reserve your spot.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Let it Snow at Union Station
Until January 8, the planetarium at Union Station will hold daily 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. screenings of ‘Let it Snow,’ an all ages musical journey. The cost is $3 per showing. Visit boxoffice.unionstation.org for more information.

Northeast Fit-Mix
Stop by the North-East Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, December 30, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness class. The class alternates between chair fitness techniques and the new “Soul-Flo” yoga activities. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise in these courses at the North-East Public Library.
Homeless KC Veteran Toiletry & Household Item Drive
Until January 2, community centers throughout Kansas City will be collecting toiletries and household items for Kansas City’s homeless veterans. Kansas City Parks and Recreation is partnering with Restart, MTP, and the Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness in the endeavor. Needed household items include cleaning products, pots and pans, paper towels, dishes, silverware, towels, and blankets. Needed toiletries include shampoo and conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, and disposable razors. For Northeast residents, Garrison Community Center (1124 E. Fifth St., Kansas City, MO) and Gregg/Klice Community Center (1600 John “Buck” O’Neil Way, Kansas City, MO) are likely to be the closest drop-off sites.

In a continuation of its Tim Burton series, the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will hold a screening of Batman Returns on Saturday, December 31 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Enjoy the final installment of the DecemBurton series at Central Library.
Monday, January 2
Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Public Library
Come out to the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Monday, January 2 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available, and no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches can answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.
Create a vision board at Central Library
Join the Central Public Library on Monday, January 2 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. to create a vision board. Let the library help you visualize your 2017 goals. Art supplies and a plethora of recycled magazines will be on hand for the public to use to create an inspirational collage.

KCMO Parks and Rec 2017 shelter reservations begin
2017 Parks and Recreation shelter reservations will begin on Tuesday, January 3, beginning at 7:00 a.m. Reservations can be made online or in person at the KC Parks District 3 office (6901 Elmwood Avenue), at the Loose Park Garden Center (5200 Pennsylvania), or at any of the city’s community centers. Shelters are available for rental from May 1 through October 31. All reservations are for the entire day (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.). Story time at Central Library
Stop by the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, January 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for kid-centric story time. The event will include stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. Tuesdays are special at Central branch because parking is free.
