Free budgeting class in Spanish at NE Public Library
The North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a free budgeting class on Wednesday, December 21 beginning at 1:00 p.m., and the class will be conducted in Spanish. Get a snapshot of your finances, identify components of a budget, learn how to incorporate everyday savings, and learn how to set and achieve financial goals.
Kansas City Museum closed through January 4
The Kansas City Museum will be closed to the public from December 19, 2016 through January 3, 2017, reopening for regular hours on January 4. After re-opening, docent-guided tours of the first floor of Corinthian Hall and the first floor of the Carriage House will continue Wednesday-Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Coffee and Conversations a Central Library
Head over to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Wednesday, December 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for coffee and conversation with library customers experiencing homelessness and customers interested in social issues. This program is open to any and all library customers regardless of housing status. The meeting will be held on the third floor.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Let it Snow at Union Station
Until January 8, the planetarium at Union Station will hold daily 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. screenings of ‘Let it Snow,’ an all ages musical journey. The cost is $3 per showing. Visit boxoffice.unionstation.org for more information.
Learn About Your Body and How It Can Heal Itself
Head to the North-East Public Library on Thursday, December 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. to attend a lesson about the human body. A certified BodyTalk Practitioner will help you tap into your own healing mechanisms using BodyMind and natural healing. You will also learn where to find outside resources for your healing journey. This class is for anyone wanting to relax, feel balanced and enjoy a healthy mind and body.

Homeless KC Veteran Toiletry & Household Item Drive
Until January 2, community centers throughout Kansas City will be collecting toiletries and household items for Kansas City’s homeless veteran. Kansas City Parks and Recreation is partnering with Restart, MTP, and the Greater Kansas City Coalition to End Homelessness in the endeavor. Needed household items include cleaning products, pots and pans, paper towels, dishes, silverware, towels, and blankets. Needed toiletries include shampoo and conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, and disposable razors. For Northeast residents, Garrison Community Center (1124 E. 5th St., Kansas City, MO) and Gregg/Klice Community Center (1600 John “Buck” O’Neil Way, Kansas City, MO) are likely to be the closest drop-off sites.
Northeast Fit-Mix
Stop by the North-East Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, December 23, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness class. The class alternates between chair fitness techniques and the new “Soul-Flo” yoga activities. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise in these courses at the North-East Public Library.

Watch ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ at Central Library
Head out to the Central branch (14 W. 10th St.) of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, December 24 at 12:00 p.m. for a showing of Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim Burton has never been about convention, even (and maybe especially) at Christmas. He delivered a very different kind of holiday classic in A Nightmare Before Christmas, a stop-motion animation musical that exemplifies his quirky, dark, and invariably imaginative take on the world.
Seasonal crafts for adults
Looking for something to do on the afternoon of Christmas Eve? Stop by the North-East Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on December 24 for seasonal crafts, conversation, and fun.

Jackson County Christmas in the Park
Jackson County’s annual Christmas in the Park (3901 SW Longview Road
Lee’s Summit, MO 64081) continues until December 31, from 5:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 5:30 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. This annual event features 300,000 lights and 175 animated displays. Christmas in the Park is free to attend, though donations benefiting 39 area charities will be accepted.

Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Public Library
Come out to the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Monday, December 26 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available, and no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches can answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.

Story time at Central Library
Stop by the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, December 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for kid-centric story time. The event will include stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. Tuesdays are special at Central branch because parking is free.
