Pan American Association of Kansas City’s Student Art Competition

From now until March 26, the Kansas City Museum presents “Pan American Association of Kansas City’s Student Art Competition.” The Kansas City Museum is proud to be the venue for an exhibition of artwork by the winning high school students who participated in the Pan American Association of Kansas City’s Grand Boulevard of the Americas Student Art Competition. Winning artwork will be printed on vinyl banners and installed on Grand Boulevard in spring 2016 as part of the Grand Boulevard of the Americas project.

Adult Thursday Games

Join other adults at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., Kansas City, Mo., to play a variety of games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Walk with ease

At 3 p.m. at the North-East Library, this course will teach participants how to walk and stretch safely, increase flexibility, and improve balance. Weekly incentives will be given to participants. Join to learn how walking can improve your fitness and help manage your arthritis pain.

ESL Class

Join the North-East Public Library at 10 a.m. to learn basic English skills: reading, writing, and conversation. No fee or books required.

Friday, March 4

Chair fitness

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Story time and craft

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Knights of Columbus Lenten dinner

Join the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon and council #4613 for weekly Lenten fish fry dinner. Menu includes beer battered codfish, fries and coleslaw. Dinners then Bingo from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Hall at St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexington Ave., every Friday night through Lent.

All you can eat shrimp dinner

The Holy Rosary Parish is hosting an all you can eat boiled, spiced shrimp dinner from 4 – 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the American Sons of Columbus Hall, 2415 Independence Ave. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Lenten Shrimp Dinners

Sponsored by the Hibernians at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, cafeteria, Linwood and Broadway; Fridays during Lent from Feb. 12 to Mar 18. All you can eat for $14 or for families $36 from 5 – 7:30 p.m.

Computer Class

Learn about navigating your computer in this class, which offers insight into hardware and software components. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library.

Exhibition Opening Reception for Cultures without Borders

Join the Kansas City Museum from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Carriage House for the opening of Cultures without Borders. The Kansas City Museum is proud to be the venue for the 20th anniversary exhibition of Cultures without Borders, presented by Northeast Arts Alliance KC. For the past 19 years, Cultures without Borders, has been a regional show with an average of 20 artists accepted and all related to the theme Cultures without Borders. The artists represented a diverse selection of established and emerging artists from Kansas City and beyond. Up to 40 works will be on display until March 26. Free to attend.

Chess club

Monday, March 7

Northeast resident meeting

At 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, at the Kansas City Museum, area residents will host a meeting with city and county leaders to discuss important matters within Scarritt and Historic Northeast. Guests include Kimiko Gilmore, Assistant City Manager who has stepped in for City Manager Troy Schulte since he has been called out of town; Major Joe McHale, Commander of East Patrol; Jean Peters Baker, Jackson County Prosecutor; and Frank White, County Exective. The primary focus of this meeting is the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association. However, some of the issues will be common to other neighborhoods within Historic Northeast so everyone is welcome to attend.

Join the Lykins Neighborhood Association for its monthly meeting on March 14 at 7 p.m. at the KC Statuary Building, 3704 E. 12th St.

Fourth annual Easter egg hunt

All residents of the Historic Northeast are invited bring their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews for this annual event. In addition to thousands of eggs to hunt, there are bounce houses, games and prizes and the Easter bunny. The hunt takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 26.

NEHS Class of 1946 reunion

Join your classmates from Northeast High School’s Class of 1946 for the 70th reunion. The event will take place this June. More details will be provided soon.
