Teen craft night
Teens are invited to join North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for a night of crafting beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines
Curated by Dr. Gene T. Chavez and presented by the Kansas City Museum in partnership with El Centro, Inc., Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines is an exhibition exploring the rich history and legacy of Mexican American fast pitch softball leagues in Missouri and Kansas. Opening on the weekend that the 2015 National Conference of La Raza’s (NCLR) annual conference comes to Kansas City, this exhibition features a documentary film based on oral histories of former players and items from personal collections including photographs, uniforms, league documents, trophies, and other historical materials. On view from July 11 – September 5, 2015. Exhibition tours are free and will be available on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Join North-East Public Library for class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.
Communiversity Spanish Class
Join the North-East Public Library at 10 a.m. to learn how to speak conversational Spanish.

Indian Mound Neighborhood Meeting
Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at 5415 Community Garden, located at 5415 St. John Ave., next to the car wash. The association will be collecting dues for 2015-16 membership, as well as show off the community garden. See the progress they’ve made and the fence that they’ve built with a grant from CCF. A representative from CCF will be on hand to take photos of the community interacting in the garden. Hot dogs, soda, chips, and other snacks will be provided.

Join the Northeast Chamber of Commerce from 5 – 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, for its fourth annual Taste and Tour event at the Don Bosco Senior Center, 580 Campbell Ave. Taste International food from local restaurants and enjoy a trolley tour of three Historic Northeast Neighborhoods.
Knights of Columbus breakfast
Join the Knights of Columbus #4613 for breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in the St. Joseph’s Hall of St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexinton Ave. The Knights are rolling back prices, $5.50 for adults and $3 for children 12-years-old and under. Menu includes: pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and choriza, as well as coffee and juice.
Dinner and bingo
Join the Knights of Columbus #4613 for a night of food and fun on Friday, Sept. 11, in the St. Joseph’s Hall at St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexington Ave. Dinner kicks off at 5 p.m. with bingo lasting from 7 – 9 p.m. Menu includes three tacos and rice for only $5. Also available are soda, water, coffee and desserts.
Acoustic Jams on the Portico
From 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, join the Kansas City Museum for a jam session. Free to participate and listen. Break out your musical instrument, clear your throat, tune up, and join us on the front porch and lawn of Corinthian Hall for an acoustic jam. All styles of music are welcome. The jams mostly feature three cord songs and participants take turns leading songs. Beginners are welcome. For inquires, contact jam coordinator Peter Gross at (816) 674-0393. These jams will continue on the first Saturday of each month through October.
