KC Museum Hard Hat Tour

Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will also tour the exhibit inside Corinthian Hall: Planning for the Future: Find History at Kansas City Museum. Admission is free and this week’s tours will be held Wednesday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and at noon on Sunday at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Dressing Up in Kansas City: Rites of Passage exhibition

Join the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., for Dressing Up Kansas City: Rites of Passage. The exhibit is available by tours only Wednesday – Sunday, on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday – Saturday and at noon on Sundays. Admission is free. Through the Museum’s historic clothing and textile collection, it’ll feature artifacts illustrating the various customs of Kansas City’s shared heritage. Birth rituals, wedding traditions and mourning customs will all be highlighted with clothing that helped define each in their own time period. In addition, the exhibition will feature photographs of Kansas City residents all dressed up and documenting each rite of passage that came their way.

Author Talk: Windows of Kansas City

Join the Kansas City Museum from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, for author Bruce Mathews as he gives a presentation on Kansas City’s stunning stained-glass windows.

Join North-East Public Library between 4 – 6 p.m. for craft making. This even is for children five-years-old and above.

 

Friday, November 14

Story Time and Craft

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Teen Lock-in

Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the North-East Library, this after hours program for teens, grades 6-12, includes free food, video games, and more. Computer Class

Learn about navigating your computer in this class, which offers insight into hardware and software components. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library.

Preservation Workshop

Join Curator of Collections Lisa Shockley and meet high-end milliner Amina Marie Hood from 1 – 3:30 p.m. Examine the history of hat making. Hood will also host a trunk shop of her wonderful hats. A reception with Ms. Hood will follow the presentation. Admission is $10 and preregistration is required. Purchase tickets online through kcparks.org.

The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Mattie Rhodes Center, 148 N. Topping Ave.

Lykins Neighborhood Association Meeting

The Lykins Neighborhood Association will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Eleo’s Coffee House, 3401 Independence Ave., as they review crime and grime, organize neighborhood cleanups and focus on creating a better community in the neighborhood. Other neighborhoods in the Historic Northeast are more than welcome to join.
