You might know Sam Davis from his Shelter Insurance business. Then again, maybe you met him at Blue Valley Kiwanis Club or through his past involvement at Holy Cross Catholic School. Perhaps he has coached your daughter’s softball team. Or maybe you’ve just seen him on his morning walks around the Indian Mound neighborhood some time in the past seven years — he’s the one with the walking stick.
There are many ways to get to know Sam Davis because involvement in the Historic Northeast community is key to the insurance agent — and it comes naturally to him.
For the past 16 years, Davis has been in the business of selling home, auto, life and rental insurance in Northeast. He’s known as the insurance agent who is willing to make house calls and leaves a unique impression with his hole-punched business cards reminding clients there may be holes in their insurance coverage.
Outside of work, however, Davis has been following his passion of coaching fast-pitch softball for 21 years. Since 2001, he’s worked with girls ages 12 and under from north of Truman Road.
“That’s always been my goal to serve Northeast kids,” Davis said. “My goal is some of them will go onto the next level and go to college on scholarships.”
The girls compete in the Raytown league and get the opportunity to travel with the team. Davis also serves the softball league on its board of directors.
Davis’ involvement at Holy Cross Catholic School stems from his connection to the school through his pre-schooler grandson, Austin Hancock.
Although Davis is not a church member at Holy Cross, the school made a big enough impression on him when his granddaughter, Alex Davis, attended that he participated on the school board.
“The caliber of the school [impressed me],” he said. “It has a great philosophy of teaching.”
His Northeast community involvement also extends into the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Davis is on the chamber board.
