Shaman’s Fire and Mike Miller have partnered together to mix music with fire for Northeast Arts KC’s In the Pink of the Evening Concert Series Saturday, Oct. 15.

The concert will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. John Community Gardens, 3916-3920 St. John Ave., Kansas City, and will feature primal fire spinning set to a saxophone and the Cuban, Brazilian and World-Beat percussionist sounds of Mike Miller.

Shaman’s Fire is Kansas City’s newest premier fire performance group. They’ve only performed together since April, but have a decade of eclectic performance under their belt. Best friends (and staff and poi spinners) Rob Trowbridge and James Spears recruited staff spinner John Burris to round out their trio for the BAJ Photography First Fridays’ art exhibit opening. The three worked so well together that they added the artistic stylings of Todd Jordan with fire clubs and Kyle Jordan with flaming devil sticks to the mix. Thus Shaman’s Fire was born and they promise not to disappoint with their own urban tribal take on this most ancient of fire arts.

Mike Miller is a Cuban, Brazilian and World-Beat percussionist, producer, performer and teacher. He performs and teaches the music of Cuba and Brazil, while promoting and facilitating group music making and wellness.

In the Pink of the Evening is free and attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs and refreshments.
