Kansas City officials have announced the preferred location for the new East Patrol Division/Crime Lab.

The new site will be located between 26th Street on the north, 27th Street on the south, Brooklyn Avenue on the west, and Prospect Avenue on the east. Nearly 130 properties are located in that location, which include 33 owner occupied properties.

Both the crime lab and East Patrol Division will span 12 to 15 acres and the project’s projected cost from design to construction is $57 million.

City officials chose the site from among 25 prospective locations and used factors like land cost, size and shape of the site, pedestrian friendliness, visibility and opportunities to revitalize an area in making their final decision. The facility and site will meet the city’s requirements of LEED gold as outlined by the U.S. Green Building Association.

Public meetings will be held at 8 a.m., noon and at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Mount Calvary Church of Christ, 2601 Brooklyn Avenue. Residents within the proposed site are invited to attend to receive more information about the city’s purchasing process.
