A 21-year-old Kansas City man pleaded guilty Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting two individuals in Historic Northeast last year.
Raul Dieguez was sentenced to 15 and 13 years on two counts of voluntary manslaughter and three years on two counts of armed criminal action. His sentences will run concurrently.
During court proceedings at Jackson County Circuit Court, Dieguez said he killed Juan C. Garcia, 16, and Genaro Garcia-Uranga, 27, in separate shootings.
According to court documents, Garcia was in his front yard in the 1500 block of Belmont when a van with two men pulled up. A man then stepped out of the van and punched Garcia, which incited a fight in which Garcia was fatally shot.
Garcia-Uranga was first reported missing in May of 2010 and his body was discovered June 16, 2010, near Gladstone Boulevard and North Belmont Avenue.
