If you know the LaBruzzo sisters of the old Kelley’s Bakery fame, then you know they never, ever do anything in a small or low key kind of fashion.

When the sisters’ mother, Carol, passed away some 10 years ago from breast cancer, the sisters (Rosemary, Carol, Christy and Vicki) organized Angels of Hope, a small group of friends who would walk in the annual Susan G. Komen Walk for a Cure, benefitting breast cancer awareness and research.

What started as a family project 10 years ago has morphed in to a 170-member team, all walking on the Angels of Hope team in the memory of Carol “Rookie” LaBruzzo. Roughly three years ago, one of the sisters (Rosemary) was diagnosed with breast cancer, making the effort even more personal.

Rosemary, now a two-year survivor of the disease, thanked attendees and team members alike for their effort and dedication to finding a cure. Following this year’s walk on August 14, the sisters showed their appreciation for their team by hosting a lavish buffet breakfast at the American Sons of Columbus hall. This year the team raised close to $5,000 for the Komen Foundation and took second place in the Friends and Family group for the number of walkers they fielded this year.
