To offer relief to those in the Northland, the City of Kansas City is temporarily lifting its two-bag trash limit Wednesday, Aug. 24, through Tuesday, Aug. 30. A number of Northland residents experienced extended electrical power outages due to the recent storms and now the residents are left with a growing pile of spoiled or contaminated food. The Northland is defined as the area within Kansas City that is north of the Missouri River.

Residents in areas hit hardest by the storm will also be able to take advantage of a special curbside woody debris pickup in specific collection zones beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27. The largest collection zone is limited to areas of Kansas City within the following boundaries: north boundary Highway 152; west boundary I-29 South to I-635 South to Highway 9; east boundary I-435; south boundary Armour Road/Highway 210 (within Kansas City).

Smaller collection zones within the city limits include the subdivisions, Chapel Woods Homes Association, Royal Oaks North, Linden Park, Wildberry, Wildberry West, Hawthorne, Picture Hills and Autumn Ridge.

To make this special collection possible, the city is suspending its “bulky item collections” until further notice.

As an additional aid to residents affected by the recent storms, Kansas City’s leaf and brush drop-off centers have extended their days of operations.

Leaf and brush drop-off centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 28. The centers are located at 1815 N. Chouteau Trafficway (just south of the Missouri River) and just south of I-470 on the east side of Raytown Road. Proof of residency is required.

After Sunday, Aug. 28, the centers will return to regular hours, open only on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents of Kansas City can bring leaves, yard waste and brush to either location.

Those with questions about the city’s suspended bulky collections or the leaf and brush programs can contact the city’s Action Center, (816) 513-1313.
