Who’d have thunk it.

Steve “I’m from Northeast” Glorioso and the likes of Clinton “2 percent” Adams and Freedom Inc. in bed together. Twenty years ago it would have been unheard of, but in these tough times, you do what you gotta do to stay relevant.

But congrats to turncoat Steve — he played his clients well and got the job done for them — well, less the 2 percent from the demanded 60 percent black population basis Freedom squawked about. But in the end, Northeast was the “Neighborhoods First” City Council’s whipping boy yet again, getting carved up in the council redistricting hot mess.

Additionally, this week’s spineless politician award goes to former Councilman John Fairfield, who led his “clients” (the city’s Hispanic population) to Map No. 17, then didn’t have the cojones to stand up and fight for them when the action got heated.

The votes were already in house for the final map, Map 13, as early as last Monday — fully three days before the actual council vote. It certainly makes us wonder why testimony was even taken, given it sure looks like Map 13 was a foregone conclusion with council members.

As for the 11 votes on the council (and that of Mr. “City that Works” Mayor) who voted for Map 13? Actions have consequences. Northeast has long been known as a neighborhood that remembers — and rest assured, Mr. Mayor and mayoral candidates, our readers will remember who betrayed them in October come Election Day.
