With a fixed income, it’s not always easy to make ends meet.

To help area senior citizens, Harvesters – The Community Food Network and the Don Bosco Family Support Center have teamed up to offer food boxes for seniors.

Currently, 156 seniors are registered with Don Bosco to receive the monthly boxes of food through the Commodity Foods Supplement Program.

“We’d like to get it up to 200,” Director of the Family Support Center Carla Brewer said. “Harvesters has some extra boxes and we need to get those boxes distributed because I know there’s people that need it desperately. Especially when they’re on a fixed income, it makes it hard.”

Each box contains 30 pounds of food and includes items like juice, cereal, rice and other nutritious items.

Senior citizens at poverty level or below are encouraged to register at the Don Bosco Family Support Center for a monthly food box. To register, visit the center from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Family Support Center is located at 520 Garfield Avenue, Kansas City, Mo.
