During the Nov. 5 General Election, Kansas City and Jackson County voters braved long lines to cast their ballots for President and Vice-President, a slew of Missouri state offices and amendments, seats on the Missouri General Assembly and select county offices.
The Kansas City Board of Election Commissioners (KCEB) tabulated 124,906 votes within its jurisdiction. Kansas City voter turnout was recorded at 53.9% of 231,513 registered voters.
Outside Kansas City boundaries, the Jackson County Election Board tabulated 194, 321 ballots out of 252,000 registered voters, with an overall turnout of 77.1 %.
The following unofficial results combine ballots cast in both Kansas City and Jackson County in Missouri General Assembly districts that fall in both jurisdictions.
In the race to represent Historic Northeast in the Missouri House of Representatives include District 19 candidates Wick Thomas (Democrat) and Karen Spalding (Republican) — both previous candidates for this seat. Thomas took the lead with 6,180 votes, while Spalding received 2,114 votes.
Missouri House District 23 is currently represented by Michael Johnson (Democrat), elected in 2020 and 2022. Johnson was seeking re-election and faced Republican opponent, Daniel P. Contreras. Johnson will return to office with 6,730 votes to Contreras at 1,099 votes.
Missouri State Senate candidates in District 11 are Republican Joe Nicola in his first campaign for public office, and Democrat Robert Sauls — a current member of the Missouri House of Representatives, District 21. Nicola received 36,732 votes to win over Sauls with 33,257.
Candidates for Missouri State Senate District 7 are Republican Joey LaSalle in his first bid for public office and Democrat, Patty Lewis. Since 2021, Lewis has served as District 25 representative in the Missouri House. Lewis garnered 59,763 votes over LaSalle with 19,799 votes.
In Missouri State Senate District 9, the candidates are Republican Derron Black, who has previously vied for public office unsuccessfully and Democrat Barbara Washington — currently serving as senator for this district as well as previously serving in the Missouri House. Washington will continue with 49,859 votes over Black with 13,039 votes.
Voters across Jackson County selected a new Prosecuting Attorney from candidates Melesa Johnson (Democrat) and Tracey Chappell (Republican). Johnson received 174,122 votes over Chappell with 131,345 votes.
Current Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forte (Democrat) ran unopposed and was re-elected with 249,210 votes.
